Tips Before You Go To Mexico

TIPS FOR ARRIVAL at CANCUN  INT. AIRPORT

Here are some important steps you can take to prepare for a safe trip:
***Make sure you check in for your flights 24 hours prior to departure to make sure there wasn't any  changes to your flight schedule.
  • U.S. citizens must use a U.S. passport to travel overseas and reenter the United States. When does your passport expire? Some countries require that a traveler’s passport be valid for at least six months beyond the dates of the trip.
  • Make two photocopies of all your travel documents in case of emergency or if your documents are lost or stolen. Leave one copy with a friend or relative at home. It is always a great idea to let at least one person know exactly where you will be staying and how to contact you in an emergency. Carry the other copy with you stored separately from the originals.
  • Check and understand the exchange rate before you travel. Avoid carrying to much cash and consider major credit cards instead (but make sure you call your credit card company and tell them you will be traveling out of country before departing on your trip). Some cards like Discover and American Express may not be accepted. Bring small bills for tipping your driver. U.S. dollars are accepted in Mexico.
  • Are You Taking Any Prescriptions or Other Medications? Pack enough to last your entire trip, including some extra in case you are unexpectedly delayed.
  • Follow the direction on finding your transfer company on your travel documents, there is good advise. Make sure you take a copy of your travel documents with you.
 Airport Arrival Tips

After arriving, you’ll have to proceed through Immigration and Customs.  Here are a few tips:

Departing the plane:

You will depart the plane,  there will be airport personnel there to direct you on where to go after departing the plane, or, you can just follow the other passengers!

Immigration

Make sure you have filled out completely the Immigration/Customs cards given to you on the flight, some airlines are not supplying the Mexican tourist card but you can complete is before you leave home.  Click HERE to complete form.

Have your Immigration cards and passports in hand when you approach the immigration booth.  This will make things go much quicker.

Depending on how many other flights arrive at the same time as yours, the wait to get through Immigration could take a while.

After clearing Immigration, proceed to the baggage claim area (there will be someone showing you the way).  Depending on how long it took you to get through Immigration, your luggage may already be off the carousel and just grouped together with lots of other luggage.  This is when it’s handy to have some sort of colorful ribbon or something to distinguish your luggage from everyone else.

Customs

Once you have claimed your luggage, proceed to Customs.  They may search your luggage before you proceed.

After clearing Customs, go straight outside .  Please note that there are some Timeshare representatives inside do not talk to them they may try to get you follow them to sell timeshares.  Just say “no, thank you” and proceed outside the building to your transport company.
